Times square reflected in the human eyeHere at McLeod Eye Associates, we want to ensure the best care for your eyes. That commitment to safety is why we recommend optomap at your next visit.

Optomap is an ultra-wide digital retinal imaging system that helps you and your eye doctor make informed decisions about your eye health and overall well being. In a nutshell, optomap brings your eye exam to life.

Human Eye Anatomy

The retina, or delicate lining at the back of the eye, is incredibly important for a doctor to examine. An unhealthy retina can cause impaired vision or even blindness, and since there are no nerve endings in the retina, one may have a problem and not even notice it. The retina is also the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly, meaning a doctor can not only examine the state of the eye, but can also see signs of diseases such as stroke, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes.

optomap-with-withoutBefore optomap, an eye doctor could see around 12 percent of a patient’s retina, through a very difficult and uncomfortable procedure. Thanks to optomap, now we can easily see 80 percent of a patient’s retina, with minimal discomfort to our patients.

Optomap is recommended for everyone, including children. Ask about optomap next time you visit McLeod Eye Associates, your vision and overall health will thank you.
